Our Roots

Turman Hardwood Flooring was established in 2002 in Galax, Virginia, in the Appalachian Mountains of Southwest Virginia. As a subsidiary of The Turman Group, we are part of a family-owned forestry products organization with roots dating back to 1964.

Our work begins with the hardwood resource itself. Located in the Appalachian hardwood region, Turman Hardwood Flooring manufactures solid hardwood flooring in a range of species, grades, and finishes for residential and commercial applications. The natural color, grain, and character of Appalachian hardwoods have long made this region an important source for flooring, furniture, and other wood products.

Appalachian Foundation

Being based in Galax places us near the hardwood resource we manufacture. Through our connection with The Turman Group and its vertically integrated forestry products system, we are part of a broader process that reaches from the forest to the finished product.

This integration supports consistency, accountability, and practical control throughout production. From tree harvesting to manufacturing, packaging, and shipment, our work is connected to a larger system built around Appalachian hardwoods and long-term use of the resource.

Stewardship, Waste Reduction, and Renewable Byproducts

Turman Hardwood Flooring and The Turman Group strive to reduce waste, respect the environment, and act as stewards of the natural resources that support our industry. That commitment is reflected in our use of wood-fired kilns, replanting and natural regeneration from harvest, and the reduction of wood waste through hardwood pellet production.

In 2005, Turman Hardwood Flooring began manufacturing hardwood pellets as a way to reduce wood waste and enter the renewable home-heating fuel market. Our pellet operation uses sawdust collected at the hardwood flooring facility, along with sawdust from other Turman Group sawmill facilities.

Turman Hardwood Premium Pellets are made from 100% hardwood and are described as clean-burning, biodegradable, and free of preservatives and chemicals.

A Practical Commitment to Hardwood

Turman Hardwood Flooring brings together Appalachian hardwood, regional manufacturing experience, and the strength of The Turman Group’s vertically integrated forestry products system. From each board and plank to every bag of pellets, our work carries forward the history, craftsmanship, and stewardship that define Turman Hardwood Flooring.
